why is media literacy important?

As it was mentioned in class, media literacy is an approach to many sides of our culture and society, it provides many ways for people to analyze and access messages or documents that were presented by others. Plus it gives the chance to others to speak their minds and share their perspectives on a specific topic.
What is good about media literacy is the opportunity that it gives to society to have multiple points of views on any topic proposed or shared. And people can share their thought and opinions that can lead to a change.
Plus this sort of medium can play a huge role in educating students and helping them to become more critical in their way of thinking, to be able to observe correctly and share their opinions in the right ways. Plus this sort of communication helps one to know his worth and identity while learning about others’ cultures and one owns society. Moreover the important thing about media literacy in that it’s not limited to a specific medium or form, one has many sorts such as radio, tv, newspapers or even songs. For example, a simple song that was shown in class called “salmonella” has created some kind of conflicts because many people have listened to one song which means there are many opinions. Some have taken the song in an offensive way others have taken it as a joke in a funny matter. Lastly, what is always a plus in media literacy is that it can be freely anonymous, one can share or even create a whole revolution by not even being in the country and not exposing his identity.
