What does “militainment” refer to?

The term -militainment- refers to the idea of combining the act of entertainment with some military themes that could be offered for people to view in multiple ways. Through the article written by Andersen and Mirrlees, 2014, one can see how military acts can be seen or offered in many ways such as video games, media news or even in films. These platforms are available for the majority of the population, it is used to remind the people how the war was and especially with the development of technology a lot of new ways were used to present the true reality of war history.

As it is known, the media is controlled by people who present what they want others to see. They tend to brainwash people in an indirect way to like the act of defense through the military. For example, many teenagers and adults are playing video games related to forces and military such as “Call Of Duty”, the games tend to excite players even indirectly encourage them to join the army.

Also one can see that in the article it was mentioned that even civilians who play “Call Of Duty” have said, “There is a soldier in all of us.”, (Andersen and Mirrlees, 2014). Another example to show how this form of entertainment had an impact on media, is presented in the movies especially in the war genres, a movie called “Pearl Harbor” displayed the actions that have taken during world war II, even though it is all about war but moviemakers tend to reach out to the audience by playing on their emotions. Like in the movie they focused on the importance of brotherhood back in the war and the greatness of love but more importantly all it was showing was the actions of the soldiers.
